HOLY TOLEDO! We are packing!

Goodness me!

Time has flown and now we are packing to go home.  We have done a little too much shopping......oh well.  Nothing I can do about that now. Just learn for next time that I do too much shopping.  Mind you I should have learnt this from last time.

Elliott and I have had such a good time.  Heaps of great classes - heaps of different classes - made new friends - hung out in cool locations - had lots of laughs!  All in all a great time.  And I reckon that every mum needs to go somewhere with their 16 year old and do loads of crazy stuff with them.

Can't wait to get back home to my family and to all the awesome classes that I have the privilege of teaching each week.  Have really missed my family and all the awesome people I get to see every week in my classes!  Can't wait to see my wonderful husband and my two other kidlets (everytime I see William on skype - I am shocked at how tall he is!)

Zumbreros who were thinking of hitting up my Tuesday morning class - please check my facebook status - cause if I am not going to make it I will post straight after I have cleared immigration (or even when I land if the plane is delayed!).

See you all soon!

TIME FLYS......

I can not believe that it has been so long since I wrote!

High lights of NYC........
* Street Jazz with Sheryl Murakami.  I have been taking her class now since 2004.  The first street jazz class that I ever took in NYC.  We even did plies and developes.  All in all - her choreography has progressed but her class is just the same.  She is such a character and never fails to entertain.
* Hip Hop with the Nicholson twins.  WOW!  Two guys so young who could teach a routine so precisely and communicate so clearly what they were after with each movement.  They were awesome.
* Horton with Mr Myers. Still a favourite.  Really is the best Horton class in NYC.  Although I really liked Berger's class as well.  Will definitely be taking her class again next time I visit.
* Ballet with David Howard.  I have always been too worried to take his class.  Worried that I wouldn't keep up or would be in the way. It was such a surprise to me to find that the class suited me perfectly - and made me sweat more than ZUMBA!
* Of course my fabo Zumba classes.  Zumba always makes me smile!
* Dinner at Sambuca.  Too much food and too delicious.
* Seriously long walk through Central Park.  Elliott and I saw heaps of things that we had never seen before and it was great fun.
* Visit to the 9/11 Memorial.  I was so impressed with the way the memorial has been put together. It is an emotional place but so peaceful.

We are currently in LA and have had two great days.

Day 1 - Arrived.  Drove to the Citadel Factory Outlets and shopped like maniacs!

Day 2 - We went to Your Neighbourhood Studio and Zumba'd for two hours! YES two hours.  So awesome.  Headed to Target and I finally got my nails done :)
We then drove up the coast to Malibu.  Had some chill time, had a beer, had some nachos.  Now trying to work out what we are going to do for the next few days.....too many classes....not enough hours......

What a day.....

Today was a busy day!

Started with Jazz Funk this morning with Chio.  Chio is the BOMB and it was her birthday today, so Happy Birthday Chio!  Her class was awesome as usual!  My brain, however, was in slow mode cause we got up so late that I didn't have time for coffee.  This is because I kept hitting snooze when the alarm sounded.  Super proud of myself.......NOT!
We also forgot about our laundry and it wasn't until Elliott got into the shower in this morning that he realised we had left the towels in the dryer!  I managed to make it from floor 15 to the basement return, in my pj's without encountering another person.  Pretty lucky :)
My second class was Stiletto Heels.  Have never taken this class before or taken this teacher.  She was awesome and her warm-up had SOOOOOOOOOOO many sit ups.  Even more than I can imagine.  All the while she jumped around the room looking joyful.  The routine was super sexy and one of the warm-up activities involved 'strutting' around the room' then freestyling.  So much fun!

We then went out to get lunch and COFFEE.  Me without coffee til about 2pm is not pretty!  I raced to starbucks for my latte and then we got lunch at the Food Emporium.  I felt sad for  homeless lady and her dog so gave them some money.  I probably should have bought them both some food.......mmmmmmm

We went back to BDC and I took stretch while Elliott took Hip Hop and then we both took Luam's Hip Hop class.  For this class you have to wear an arm band and I still think they put about 80 students in the room.  It is sooooooo packed.  She is such a great teacher and such a great choreographer that it is worth the squashiness.  Her routine today was no disappointment.  Super challenging and intricate but really good to dance.  There was a young guy in the class who just was amazing.  Shows you what training hard can do!  Another reason I love coming to take a million classes - to watch the awesome young talent that is coming into the dance world.

Elliott and I then went down to the World Trade Center Memorial site.  So well thought out - so well put together.  If I had lost a friend or family member on 9/11 I would be so happy with the way that the site has been constructed.  With space and water and trees and much love and care.  Really glad that I went down and took time to walk around and reflect. Next year the museum should be opened - which I would love to see!

We then walked down to the World Financial Center and had a nice dinner overlooking the Hudson River.  I have never really been down to this area before but will definitely visit again.

Going to walk across the Brooklyn Bridge in the morning - even though the forecast is for rain!

Oh the cockroach....

Forgot about the bloody cockroach which had Elliott running around screaming.

Gotta love a good cockroach!  Mind you - I didn't mention the RAT on the subway track that nearly had me passing out even though it was never coming anyway near me (at least 3 metres if not more away).  YUK!!!!!

So I dealt with the massive flying cockroach - and Elliott will deal with any rodent type animals that may come near me!

A few days at once!

September 22

The longest day….EVER

Elliott and I set off from home at 3:45am on Sept 22.  It is currently 8:05am on Sept 22 in LA, which is 1:05am on Sept 23 in Sydney.  If I just sent you a text message – I am sorry I wasn’t thinking. J

We are waiting for our connection to NYC which is delayed due to air traffic issues – gives us the opportunity to further our people watching skills as well as write day one of the journal and/or play Sudoku.

Our flight was uneventful – except for when I left my phone on-board forcing us our of the immigration line and running all the way back to the plane – which had been secured and they wouldn’t let me on……but because the airport workers are actually really kind, they searched for me and then let me on when they still couldn’t find it.  If you were a recipient of a midnight text then you know I have my phone back.

Elliott was held up at immigration again!  It means we have to sit in the ‘Admissibility Recheck’ area until they sort it out.  Turns out they recorded my finger prints on his identity one time when we visited and this is why he keeps getting flagged.  They think that it is finally fixed now for good.

Anyway….I am going to lay down flat – because I can!

later that same day........

Finally made it to NYC - just seemed like it took forever.  Our apartment is awesome.  On the 15th floor of a cool apartment building on West 71st Street. A walk to everything cool - food, dance classes, coffee (even if it is only Starbucks coffee) supermarkets, Central Park.....the list goes on.

We ate dinner at Harry's Burritos on Columbus, had showers and relaxed.

Sept 23

Made us get up and get moving.  Took Yoga class first thing.  Elliott reckoned it was too hard - but I thought it was ok.  Elliott then did floor barre which he really liked and I did Stanfield's Contemporary Lyrical which I love!

We took a walk - got some lunch and bought ourselves umbrella's (booooooo).  By the time we reached our apartment it was almost time to turn around and go back to see our show.

"How to Succeed in Business Without Really trying" was really great.  It was so well done - the script, the set, the directing, the choreography - all just so clever.   I had to get Elliott to keep me awake though as I was really exhausted and probably should have booked the show for a Saturday night!

Sept 24

So excited to take Mr Myers class today.  Made my day!  He is just an awesome teacher :)  Some amazing dancers in the class - all the amazing ones were from The Ailey School and are just doing an extra cause it's Saturday.

Also had the privilege of watch a couple of soloists from the American Ballet Theatre take ballet class.  So fantastic to watch - such technicians.

Elliott wasn't feeling well this morning so he had a rest and when I returned I 'managed to convince him' that we needed to visit Journeys and Century 21 (I didn't advertise Victoria Secret or I knew my get up campaign would never succeed).  We did a bit of shopping - and I thank Jenna Marbles underwear horoscopes for keeping my Victoria Secret bill to a minimum. Elliott and I laughed a lot while wondering about the store.

We stayed in the shoe department of Century 21 until only 5 minutes before closing time.........

Ate some dinner at Ruby Foo's cause you can't come NYC without visiting Ruby Foo's!  The food there is fantastic.  Tried a cocktail from the new cocktail menu...YUM!

Sept 25

Managed to actually sleep until 9am this morning.  A miracle for me!  But that meant I rushed to get myself together in time for ZUMBA!!!!!!!

Was pretty excited to be taking a Zumba class.  4 days without Zumba is a very long time for me.  So went off to the 10am class and had a blast.  I was smiling like a crazy person - I think I must look like that a lot when I am instructing.  Got a good sweat on to start my day!

Then went to Ballet which seriously nearly killed me.  What is the deal with Beg Ballet.......always harder than Adv Beg Ballet...........go figure.  Then I took another great Horton class.  This teacher I had not met before but she was unreal - such a great manner and awesome explanations.  She made one tiny correction for me to apply in the flat back series and WOW - what a difference!

Elliott and I took a long walk through the park all the way to the East Side and went to the evening service at a church over there.  The band was so good - a 5 piece jazz ensemble and a lead singer.  After the service the band stayed for about 10 mins and just jammed - so cool!

We walked down Maddison Ave and all the way across the park (on 59th street) to Columbus Circle and had dinner at Wholefoods.  Love a bit of Wholefoods for dinner :)

Heading for bed now - cause we are up early to be feral in NYC City some more.

I have packed!

It is amazing!  Never before have I packed this far away from my departure!

I have put a suitcase inside a suitcase and have filled the one inside with my essentials.  I am just realising that I haven't packed any toiletry items.............OH DEAR..........

Woohoooo!!!!!

Actually going to start using this blog again so you can all follow Elliott and I on our USA Adventure 2011!

We are both busily organising ourselves to be on the plane at 6am (yes 6am - who booked this flight!)

Already have too many classes to go to in NY and LA.  I have decided that I am going to do Cardio Barre every morning in LA - Elliott is already scared! And we are having a drive up the coast and going outlet shopping........going to get all my Christmas shopping done super early!
